Frequently Asked Questions

What age do we start from?

Our children’s classes start from 3yrs olds.

Can parents stay with their Children?

With over 25 years of teaching experience with our younger dancers, we have found that children are different when it comes to taking part in a class. Some are happy to run in without any guidance or reassurance, whilst others need a little bit of encouragement and a helping hand.

We have found that we can get more from the children with less distraction if we do not have parents stay in the same room as we teach the children. This helps us to nurture and comfort them in a way that doesn’t distract the rest of the class and minimises the chain reaction of one child wanting “mummy” to the whole class then wanting “mummy”, however, we do have a waiting room next door to our main Ballroom and a viewing window in reception, where you can check in from time to time to see how they are getting along.

Do we teach adults?

Yes, we have several classes for adults to join, have a look at our current class timetable for more information.

Do you teach private lessons?

Yes, we offer private lessons to Children and Adults. Please note that children booking a private lesson will require an adult to be present in the studio whilst the lesson is taking place.

Have a look on our booking page for availability.

Do I need a partner?

No partner? no problem.

Here at Youngs Academy we have class assistants to help and dance with anyone who attends without a partner.

What do I wear?

Loose comfortable clothing is best, for both Adults and Children, and if you can bring a pair of shoes to change into, preferably not trainers as they can stick to the floor and cause knee problems or too high a heel. After a few weeks of classes, we would advise you on the correct dance shoes/wear to purchase.

Do we do exams and shows?

We have 3 UKA examination sessions a year and then 3 Showcase Presentation days for you to come along to and enjoy watching your little one participate in.
