Young’s Academy and the Supadance League

What is The Supadance League and how are we involved?

The League is a National League for Medallist Ballroom and Latin American Dancers. It is a team event divided into five separate sections:

Juvenile (Under 12’s)

Junior (Under 16’s)

Adult (16 and over)

Over 35’s

All Ladies

There are nine events held through out the year in the North West Area League, which is the League that we compete in. The Ninth event is the Finals event, usually held in Blackpool in December. This is where all the schools in the country compete against each other.

We have been competing in the Northwest area league since 2015 and the 2022 season was our most successful season so far. We have a Juvenile, Junior, All Ladies, Adult and Over 35’s Team, see photo’s below.

The League has been running for over thirty years and is an National  invitational inter-school medalist  team competition. Each school enters a minimum of three teams, with four couples in each team, split into Juveniles (under 12's) Juniors (12-15) Adults (Over 16), Over 35's and All Ladies. The schools compete against each other for eight events during the year followed by a big finals weekend  usually  in Blackpool  in December.

We were very honoured to be invited to join the league in 2015, and have had some success so far, gradually building teams in numbers and ability. Many start as beginners.

We  are  aiming  to  continue  building  our  team  membership   this  year.  Like  anything  team  related  there  is  a level of  commitment  required  and Supadance have  some  simple  rules  to  follow.

Dancers  must  have  taken  an  examination  in  ballroom  and  Latin  in  the  past  twelve  months.

Juniors and  Juveniles  must  attend  at  least  one  of our training  session  per  week, come to the usual classes  and  have one  private  lesson.

Adults  must  commit  to  a  regular weekly private  lesson  and  regular Saturday  evening  competitors  practice.
